Writer's Wednesday

Possibly the fact that my Wednesday post is only being written and posted after Wednesday is well along tells you everything you need to know about the state of the writer just now!

I have been home from my travels for just over a week, and am *finally* getting things sorted out enough to start turning my brain to writing, though not with the focus I'd like.

I chose not to do any writing work while on my Africa trip, beyond keeping my journal. Only at the very end did I succumb to the itch to write and began drafting a bit of flash fiction (not finished, which also says a lot about my state of mind--how hard is it to at least draft a story of under 1000 words?). And on the trip home (during a16 1/2-hour leg of the roughly 41 hours door to door) I finally opened the emails from my beta readers and began thinking about what they said.

Flying over places we never expected to go.

It was no part of our intention to have *quite* such a long trip home, but the strikes at Lufthansa sent us into a bit of a panic when our flights home were cancelled. They got us onto the best flights they could, and we got to fly over South Africa (yes, they sent us 3 1/2 hours in the wrong direction first).

Anyway, at some point you just can't read any more, and the urge to look at the feedback overcame me, even though I couldn't do much about it. I did make notes and start brainstorming how to deal with the main problem pointed out to me--which is what I'm working on now (or would be, if I weren't writing a blog post).

Flight from Victoria Falls to Capetown disembarked on the tarmac.

A very long time later, I was excited to fly over Mono Lake and see all the snow--not least because Africa (spoiler alert) is HOT, and I was so ready to not be sweating!

  1. I swear, you always feel like you need a little vacation when you get home from a vacation. LOL

    1. I do! My idea of a vacation turns out not to be very restful :) Why would I go somewhere interesting and then just rest? (Though we definitely did that in Nairobi. Exhaustion does at times take over).
