IWSG: Who or What would I be?

It's the First Wednesday again already, and time for another post for the Insecure Writer's Support Group!

Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!

Posting: The first Wednesday of every month is officially Insecure Writer’s Support Group day. Post your thoughts on your own blog. Talk about your doubts and the fears you have conquered. Discuss your struggles and triumphs. Offer a word of encouragement for others who are struggling. Visit others in the group and connect with your fellow writer - aim for a dozen new people each time - and return comments. This group is all about connecting!

Don't forget you can post your link on the IWSG Facebook page!

Our Twitter handle is @TheIWSG and hashtag is #IWSG

The awesome co-hosts for the March 5 posting of the IWSG are Ronel Janse Van Vuuren, Pat Garcia, and Liza @ Middle Passages!

Every month, we announce a question that members can answer in their IWSG post. These questions may prompt you to share advice, insight, a personal experience or story. Include your answer to the question in your IWSG post or let it inspire your post if you are struggling with something to say.

The optional March 5 question - If for one day you could be anyone or *thing* in the world, what would it be? Describe, tell why, and any themes, goals, or values they/it inspire in you.

Before I get to the question, which is a challenging one this time, let's have the Writing Report.

Submissions

Since last month, I've made two short story submissions. I also applied to another residency, and received a rejection from the one I applied to in January. Since several stories have come back and not gone out again, I still have some work to do in this area.

Writing:

I'm well into the revisions on Edited Out, the third Seffi Wardwell mystery. It's looking like less of a mess than usual, but we'll see what my beta readers say. I hope to send it to betas by the end of the month--let me know if you'd like to be one.

Trying to do a little more short-story work, but I do struggle to balance my work time, and have a LOT of fussy writing-adjacent tasks that  have been put off for too long.

Marketing:

I guess this counts as marketing! Anyway, I have joined the Northwest Independent Writers Association, and will be doing some in-person sales with them, starting with a table at Words and Wine March 15. I'll be sharing my space with fellow cozy writer (and IWSG member) Ellen Jacobson. If you are in the Portland (OR) area, come and see us March 15, 12-5, at 4510 SE 23rd Ave. (at Hip Chicks Do Wine)

This month's question:
I don't think I have an answer for this one. Though sometimes when I look across the Sound at the Olympics on a beautiful day I want to be part of them. Maybe that would be good in these difficult times. All our politics are pretty much nothing to geology! In all seriousness, though, I have no desire to be anyone or anything other than myself. Not that I think I'm perfect, but I'm used to me, and maybe (after the last 5 years) a little leery of change.

How about you? Share your struggles, triumphs, or secret identities in the comments!

  1. Hi,
I understand that totally. I inspire only to be my true authentic self. That's where my joy is.
Wishing you all the best with your projects.

  6. It's such a smart move to join with a group and combine talents to market your books. As to your answer to this month's question, I understand the yearning to be in a stable form . A geological feature is the right choice to acquire those quaities.

  7. Yeah, being ourselves is the best possible choice, IMO. Joining a local marketing group is a smart move. I'll wave to you from across the border in Vancouver, BC.

  12. I laughed at your geological reference, Rebecca. You're right! I do think we'll leave evidence of our existence in the geological record though. Hip Chicks Do Wine sound like fun. Wishing you lots of success with that.

    1. Thanks. I'm pretty sure the human era is leaving a serious mark in the geological record--but me individually? not so much :)

  14. I'm with you on being okay with being me. I'd have to learn all sorts of new things if I turned into someone else and if it's only for a day it seems like a waste. ;)

    1. Oh, good point! Putting that much effort into a single day, unless I could somehow really change the world by doing it, would be too much.
