IWSG: Favorite Fantasy Characters?
It's the First Wednesday again already, and time for another post for the Insecure Writer's Support Group!
Purpose: To
share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without
fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire
can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure
writers of all kinds!
Posting: The first Wednesday of every month is officially Insecure Writer’s Support Group day. Post your thoughts on your own blog. Talk about your doubts and the fears you have conquered. Discuss your struggles and triumphs. Offer a word of encouragement for others who are struggling. Visit others in the group and connect with your fellow writer - aim for a dozen new people each time - and return comments. This group is all about connecting!

The awesome co-hosts for the April 2 posting of the IWSG are Jennifer Lane, L Diane Wolfe, Jenni Enzor, and Natalie Aguirre!
Every month, we announce a question that members can answer in their IWSG post. These questions may prompt you to share advice, insight, a personal experience or story. Include your answer to the question in your IWSG post or let it inspire your post if you are struggling with something to say.
Remember, the question is optional

April 2 question - What fantasy character would you like to fight, go on a quest with, or have a beer/glass of wine with?
Okay, now, here's a fun question to play with! As a fantasy fan of a certain age, I of course think first of the Lord of the Rings (books, not movies). Hard not to be a little in love with both Frodo and Aragorn, and either would be top notch for a quest or a drink. I'd for sure take Aragorn to have my back in a fight.
There are other possibilities, though. I'd take Tamora Pierce's Keladry for a fight, though she might be a bit serious and intense for a fun quest. And she doesn't drink. Well, if it's drinking we want, it'd be Master Harper Robinton of Pern. And now you know I don't read a lot of recent fantasies, and almost none aimed at adults!
Writing Update:
Edited Out is edited and out... to my beta readers. It's not too late if you'd care to be one. In the mean time, I'm trying to work on short stories, and also to clear my desktop, real and virtual.
Submissions:
5 out since last IWSG post

1 rejection
1 cancelled call
So currently have 7 stories out--this has to be a record for me, but none is a new story. I do have two stories about ready to go out for the first time, and am working on another. These are things I've drafted in the past and never finished--a bad habit I'm trying to remedy!
And... marketing. Haven't done a lot, but I did finally get bookmarks made in advance of last month's successful Words and Wine event.
Please share your favorite fighting buddy or your triumphs and challenges in the comments!

Going on a quest with Aragorn sounds good to me :-)
ReplyDeleteRonel visiting for IWSG day Focusing on Self-Care
:D
DeleteI always found Frodo kind of unsufferable, but Aragorn is cool. ;-)
ReplyDeleteFrodo interests me, but I don't think he's the one to have on my side in a fight.
DeleteAlso--am I blind or something? I can't find the comment button on your post for today!
DeleteEdited and out - awesome! And I think the Harper might drink you under a table.
ReplyDeleteA fire-lizard could drink me under the table. But I could learn a lot about thinking in curves and twists from him!
DeleteLOTR is showing up a lot today--but all different characters.
ReplyDeleteLots of characters to like there.
DeleteI'm a little in love with Frodo and Aragon too. And it's awesome you're submitting.
ReplyDeleteCollecting my rejections, but I know how that works... no acceptances if you don't submit.
DeleteI love your character choices. I'd go along on that adventure.

In some ways, LOTR is the ultimate long-trail backpack trip, right? I could get behind that. Aragorn and the others as my "tramly" (trail family)!
DeleteI love Aragorn too. He was such a charismatic character. Brave and kind - the best a man could offer.
ReplyDeleteAnd I first read those books at about age 10, so he's been in my head for a lot of decades :D
DeleteSam Gamgee would be a good choice too, easily likeable, and loyal. It's good how organised you are with writing and submitting stories. Hope some come up trumps!
ReplyDeleteI didn't think of any of the Pern characters! Probably because I think the books are more sci-fi. I went with Pippin instead.
